The article describes a few small secrets and useful features of the operating system Windows 7.

1. If in Windows 7, you are holding Shift and right-click on a file or folder, the context menu will get additional features, like in the following screenshot;

2. If you right-click on the icon of the program running on the Windows 7 taskbar, by default, jumplist menu will pop-up. But if you hold  Shift and right-click on the shortcut, then a menu is activated, which was used in the previous versions of Windows;

3. In Windows 7, you can set different volume for currently active applications, as well as separately for system sounds and separately for gadgets. To do this, click on the icon in the system tray "Speakers" and select "Mixer". All of the volume settings will remain in place even after a reboot;

4. In Windows 7 there is a built-in tool for configuring text - ClearType, which is used to achieve the best quality display of fonts on your screen. To run this tool just enter the word "cleartype" and press Enter in the search line of "Start" menu. And then follow the step-by-step instructions;

5. By default, Windows 7 main items in the "Start" menu work as links, for example when you click on the link "Computer", a new window is opened with a list of sections of the "Computer". To open directly list of available sections in the Start menu, such as the Control Panel, you need to in the "Start" menu, right-click on the empty space → PropertiesCustomize... → find in the list the "Control Panel" and set the "Display as a menu" → OK. Now in the Start menu in the "Control Panel" will be a list and you can jump right to the desired service without any other unnecessary actions;

6. In Windows 7, you can quickly rename a group of files all at once. To do this, select  files, then press F2 and specify the name of the first file, the rest will be renamed automatically and in the brackets each file is assigned a unique serial number;

7. If  you in "display folder preferences" (Control Panel → Folder Options → View)  put a checkmark next to "Use check boxes to select items", in will become possilbe in the Explorer to select multiple arbitrary files (not necessary arranged in a row) by checking the boxes. Also it is possible to do it in an old fashioned way by holding down Ctrl and clicking on the file with the left mouse button;

8. For those who have two monitors under one Windows 7  it will be useful to know about the keyboard shortcuts [Windows] + [Shift] + [Left Arrow], or [Windows] + [Shift] + [Right Arrow]. These combinations allow you to move the active window from one monitor to another.
